Silent Waters
Keeping with tradition, BTM will be bringing you the very best of new
releases from around the world. Featuring cinema from over twenty countries,
BTM offers you a juicy programme with award-winning feature films and
ground-breaking documentaries.

Green Tea
BTM will be focusing on China this year by showing four films that give
the best representation of the Chinese film industry. With a mix of classic
and contemporary films, BTM offers you an introduction to the history
of the film industry whose first motion picture was introduced in 1896.

Sword in the Moon
The deadly art form of Samurai is one of the highlights including Paul
Schrader's riveting study of the final day in the life of right-wing militarist
warrior-poet Yukio Mishima and a premiere screening of
Kim Eui-seok’s South Korean fast paced thriller Sword in
the Moon.

Dilip Kumar
BTM is proud to welcome Indian cinema legend Dilip Kumar to Bradford
for this rare retrospective. Featuring classic films such as Jugnu
(1947), Devdas (1955) and Shakti (1982),
Dilip Kumar will conclude the festival with an on stage interview about
his life working in film.

Little Buddha
At a time when religion is a focal point in the world we live in, BTM
will explore the history of how religion has been depicted through the
medium of film, including documentaries from a new generation of filmmakers
as well as classics such as Bernardo Bertolucci’s Little
Buddha on 70mm and Ján Kadár’s relatively
unknown The Angel Levine.

Slices 1: Interloper
Slices of Mango: Short Films
Slices of Mango returns bigger and better presenting the best of world
short films with three juicy packages from countries as far a field as
Australia, India and Sri Lanka.

Shaolin Soccer
Heroes Of The East
In conjunction with Hong Kong Legends, Bite the Mango presents an action-packed day of screenings and demonstrations showcasing the very best of Hong Kong cinema. Screenings include Jet Li's Hero, Wing Chun with Michelle Yeoh and the much-anticipated UK premiere of Stephen Chow's Shaolin Soccer.

Pinjar
Films About Partition
Film historian and critic Lalit Mohan Joshi will give
an illustrated presentation on the films made showing the India-Pakistan
partition. The talk will be followed by a screening of Chandraparkash
Dwivedi’s political Indian drama Pinjar.

Samina Peerzada
Scriptwriting Masterclass
BTM is proud to welcome back 1998 guests Mahesh Bhatt
and Samina Peerzada. Since their first meeting at the
festival in 1998, Bhatt and Peerzada are currently working on a joint
project. This is a rare opportunity to hear them talk about the project
and to learn about writing scripts.
Symposium on World Cinema
Back for its second year, the symposium will present five speakers talking
about different aspects of world cinema.

Mysteries of Egypt
IMAX
Mysteries of Egypt gets its first bite at the mango
this year with screenings throughout the festival. An all time favourite
of Imax lovers, this is your chance to be mesmerised by the beauty of
Egypt narrated by Hollywood actor Omar Sharif.

Kandahar
TV Heaven
Bite the Mango takes a look at how multiculturalism is represented on
British television by showing four programmes including I Love
Jamaica - an hour long BBC documentary which celebrates the cultural
aspects of the island from cricket to reggae, and the Iranian documentary
Kandahar that looks at the lives of women under Taliban
rule.
Indian Cinema Poster Exhibition
From 24 September to 31 October
2004 Pictureville Bar will be hosting an exhibition of film poster
designs to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the Bite The Mango Film
Festival. The material is taken from the Museum’s own Collection
and includes such classics as Sholay, Bairaag, and Deewar,
some designs dating back to 1948.
